Rambling Reflections On Making My OD&D, And A Tiny Aside On Naturalistic Fantasy

Over the last 38-ish hours I've been working on a document as I read Fantastic Medieval Campaigns by Marcia of Traverse Fantasy. FMC is btw, a creative commons restatement of the 3LBB of OD&D. The doc I'm working on is my rulings, new rules, hacks, addons, noted external supplements, etc. and then will be custom classes, and then new monsters/playable character types and guidance how I would handle the "play anything" statement in the core text. This document is going to be a mess, probably only really useable by me. But I've already created my own magic system and everything, I'm in too deep. This will likely take a few days as I finish up FMC, reread bits, and type and type and type out this doc. I have noticed something though, as i build my OD&D, I'm drawing on some not necessarily contradictory sources, but they do have interesting interactions in effect. I am primarily drawing on, genre wise,
1. Naturalistic fantasy

2. Weird and gonzo fantasy

3. Horror and dark fantasy

4. Heroic fantasy

5. Sword & Sorcery

6. Scifantasy

Now for what it's worth, i like a good degree of naturalism in my fantasy. I'm not big on "mythic" fantasy. I like it when dragons and everything else are able to be taxonomized, even if they have fantasy origins from the gods or what be it, and every intelligent species are fundamentally people with wants, needs, emotions, and some form of culture, and there are no "savage races"(except perhaps faeries and things of that nature, but they aren't savage, just alien). So that's point 1. What about the rest? Don't some of those not jive with 1? Well, I like em when i read em or play video games with em. I just want to *roleplay* a more naturalistic variety of that soup. I don't think any of these can't be naturalized to some degree. I'm also not *entirely* naturalistic, obviously. I still love many fantasy-isms. I had a whole convo on purple/rainbow OSR about this today, and it was good.

So, off of this genre soup, and a slew of hacks and tweaks and supplements, I am building my, well, build of OD&D. I'll put the doc up for no payment on my itch when it's done. Sorry for this weird ramble, I had a very rough day on no sleep, so, i just wanted to get something out, after Mann mentioned doing a post. I need to post here anyways, so :3 More coherent reflections to come later.
